Kernel: Real‑Time Neurotech R&D Platform

Real‑Time Neurotech R&D Platform
Kernel · Lead Developer · Neurotechnology Clinical + Research Software
Project Summary
At Kernel, I was the hands-on lead engineer (small team, not a people manager) behind the primary R&D software used to develop and iterate on neurotechnology hardware systems. The core was a real-time, websocket-driven application that helped researchers and engineers build, test, and understand complex systems quickly. I also contributed to the design and launch of Kernel’s first clinical software shipped to the App Store.
Highlights
- Built the primary tool used to run and accelerate R&D
Shipped the platform teams relied on daily to develop hardware + software together—tightening feedback loops and turning research friction into a usable workflow. - Live, dynamic interfaces for complex systems
Implemented real-time experiences where data and system state update continuously, enabling rapid iteration, faster debugging, and clearer decision-making. - Clinical app shipped to the App Store
Helped design and launch the first Kernel clinical application as the company progressed from R&D into real-world deployment. - Scaled with the org as the first device launched
Built systems that stayed stable and shippable while the company grew and brought its first neurotech device to market—where reliability and clarity matter.
Why it matters (for clients)
This is the intersection of hard engineering and real human experience: when the software must be correct, responsive, and legible—because it’s attached to real devices, real operators, and real outcomes.
